| You're a physics student, build an alarm clock that burns you with a laser until you get up or something |

um, one problem - it'd burn me up
solution: clock radio on quite loud, and don't turn it off until you're dressed _________________ Why do things at the last minute? There's still 59 seconds you could wait around! |

| That would never work for me, I'd just switch it off and go back to sleep |

I do that with normal alarm clocks, which is a bad move when you have lectures to get to or exams! _________________ Why do things at the last minute? There's still 59 seconds you could wait around! |

Partly I find it depends on how absolutely vital it is that I get up, and what I may be doing. A couple of nights ago I swiped my alarm clock onto the floor in my sleep (in the middle of the night), and the battery fell out. Doing this woke me up, so I fumbled around to put the battery back in. All would have been well if only I'd put it in the right way round
Back in November I did have to get up fairly early one morning, at 3 a.m. in fact, to set off from Cherbourg to sail a Sigma 38 back to the Hamble, trying to make as much of the crossing as possible - especially the shipping lanes - in daylight. I leaped out of my sleeping bag as soon as the first pip of my alarm went off, but it was then a very long day, as I didn't get home until 2 a.m. the following morning. It was a good sail, though. _________________ 'We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty' (HHGG) |

Sounds like a great sail! I'd completely agree on the urgency, I find if i set my alarm any earlier than I have to in order to be ready in time then I'll lie in, and generally after snoozing it a few times I'll think 'oh, it'll be ok, I'll get up in a minute' and turn it off, before promptly falling asleep again, right through whatever I'm meant to be up for! _________________ Why do things at the last minute? So... we went and filled a water carrier up at the nearest possible point (this was after we got ready to make lunch at 0815 and realised there was no water!
Stephen, do u reckon there would've been water at Ramsholt? surely that's closer _________________ Why do things at the last minute? There's still 59 seconds you could wait around! |

we coulda walked into the pub and asked if they would fill up our water bottle. I think its alegal requirement for them to
not sure they would like the idea so much when we hand them the 10L one tho! |

Yes, they would have to, although there's a difference between a water bottle and a massive great water carrier! Plus the pub might've been closed that early in the morning. _________________ Why do things at the last minute? There's still 59 seconds you could wait around! |
