The Lone Wolf was very kind and complimented my porridge-making abilities. He said he had never managed to cook decent porridge on the Cruise and wanted to know how I did it. When I told him, he said he'd forget by next year
Well, I could keep my method as a closely-guarded secret, but then everyone would have to suffer burnt or lumpy porridge in the morning. So check this thread out before next year's Cruise to remind you.
Here's what you do:
1. Put equal quantities by volume of Oats, Milk and Water in a pan, plus a big pinch of salt (not too much). Quantity - half cup of each per person. Do this the night before when going to bed, leave to soak overnight (for a softer consistency).
2. At (or before) the whistle, start heating, with a kettle for the skipper's cup of tea on the other ring. Stir it a bit, occasionally as it warms up, and quite frequently as it approaches boiling.
3. As soon as it boils, take it off the gas - you can cook the rest of your breakfast, or heat water for trogs to wash in.
4. When you are ready for breakfast (probably 20 - 30 minutes later), heat it again, possibly adding a little more milk if it is a bit stiff, stirring most of the time until it comes to the boil.
5. Serve and enjoy. _________________ 'We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty' (HHGG) |

The only day I saw any porridge was the day I attempted to make it for the whole squadron (was rather hard getting the right amount in each saucepan!)
I also didn't soak it, but it wasn't too badly burnt, considering how much I ignored it! _________________ Why do things at the last minute? There's still 59 seconds you could wait around! |

They were far too small I'd still like to know who gave our biggest one away and swapped it for a Martham one (possibly curry night? or maybe even before that) - Horning weren't too happy with me about that, even more than the missing glass and dessert spoons _________________ Why do things at the last minute? It was unfair that I had to pay and the others didn't |

Gareth, you were lucky - I had to pay quite a lot! I'm sorry you had to pay a bit more than your fair share, ideally though I should've hunted through the other boats myself to try get it back. Chances are Martham just gained an extra couple of spoons, mugs and exchanged a rather rubbish saucepan for a much nicer one! _________________ Why do things at the last minute? | It was funny at Rosedene, there were, I think, two mugs and a fire extinguisher! |

Were the two mugs off Cori by any chance? (Martham mugs) - as for the fire extinguisher... I have no idea how that ended up at Rosedene! Slightly worrying if anything. _________________ Why do things at the last minute? There's still 59 seconds you could wait around! |
