I thought I'd stat a new topic, as the ones that are going at the moment were started by interlopers, and don't really have much relevance to the Broads Cuise.
I was sailing at the weekend - do you remember it was rather breezy on Saturday? It was very interesting to see how Aslan coped with a Force 6 out on Barton Broad, and the answer is 'very well'. We had her fully reefed - less than half the mainsail, and our pocket hankrchief storm jib, and she was very stable. Sure, we got the lee deck wet a couple of times, but nothing too hairy.
Later, sailing into Sutton Staithe (a dead end) under just jib with Gareth on the helm, we were doing over 6 mph, very rapidly approaching the moored boats (with limited scope to turn and no chance of stopping). So we huriedly dropped the jib - and were still doing 3mph! A bit fast to moor up, really. Fortunately, I was able to find a slightly wide bit of the channel to turn round in, and as we came up head to wind, she gracefully came to a perfect stop beside the bank _________________ 'We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty' (HHGG) |

| Cool. I haven't been sailing since the summer holidays! Just haven't found the time. Was hoping to go last weekend, but it was too windy (Twinkler has no storm jib) and this weekend I am spending at St John's because of the 10th anniversary of our youth service! I just hope we can get a last sail in before she comes out for the winter, which is happening quite soon, as it was the only date that would work! |

Luke - has the Shift Key (that's the one that enables you to type Capital Letters) broken on your keyboard again? _________________ 'We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty' (HHGG) |

It's all part of the fun...
Broads water tastes a lot nicer then the deben. The deben is salty! |

| When you're diving in, swimming under the boat e.t.c it's inevitable that you'll drink some |
